Let us remember our fallen hero's of all wars. Please take the time to review this very worthy charity. As the title implies, it's a charity to raise funds to put up a memorial in DC for those guys and gals that have come home disabled for life. It's a charity supported by Gary Sinese.

Next Thursday will be the 7th anniversary of the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon and the new Pentagon Memorial will be dedicated at 7pm Eastern on that day.  The memorial is located just outside the area of the Pentagon where the hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building, killing 184 inside.  The memorial will appropriately consist of 184 benches surrounding a series of lighted reflecting pools.  Check it out on www.memorial.pentagon.mil

Did you know that non-American citizens are serving in our Armed Forces?  Yes there are because citizenship is not required to serve in our military.  But for those non-citizens who DO join can benefit from a new fast-track process that makes it easier to work through the maze at the INS.  Call 1-877-247-4645 for details

Next weekend is chock full of events, like Operation Stand Down on the 12th and 13th,  Honoring the Troops on the 13th at the National Guard Armory, the AUSA concert at the Saroyan on Sunday the 14th…but are a couple more events you may be able to squeeze in.  The Police force down at the VA Medical Center is partnering up with Family Community Church to host their semi-annual clothing giveaway on Sat the 13th and they need your donated items.  Drop off clothing items at the front desk prior to event.  Also on Sat the 13th is the annual Military Retiree Appreciation Day down at Lemoore NAS.  They meet at the movie theater and provide information about benefits and their base services that may fill your needs.  Call 998-2977 and get your name on the roster.

Courageous Mother Braves The Elements To Honor Her Fallen Hero Son
Friday 08-29-2008 8:14am PT
To watch Debra Argel-Bastian traverse the country on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle one would ask why she would endure a grueling 6,000 mile trek this summer. She would shrug it off. She knows why she rides. And the honor it brings to her son and the many other young men and women of our armed forces who gave up their lives on the field of battle, leaving behind their mothers and other relatives like Debra, to sort out the future without them.
Her son, Captain Derek Argel, USAF CCT, was a warrior's warrior who never took the easy way out. He was a member of an elite Special Operations command unit. He excelled in every aspect of his assignments but was killed by the enemy during a very important mission in Iraq, Memorial Day 2005.
Debra also rides in memory of Major Brian Downs, SSGT Casey Crate, Capt.
Jeremy Fresques, and Capt. Ali Abass who, with her son, went on their last mission together.
The feeling of loss never truly vanishes, but Debra presses on, having worked tirelessly on behalf of other military families, for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. She is determined that the memories and more importantly, the children and families of these heroes do not suffer further. She has begun an effort to raise the funds and awareness necessary to make sure the kids left behind have a decent future.
She is riding for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF), which provides college scholarship grants, based on need, along with financial aid and educational counseling to the children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident. For over 27 years, they've stood by our heroes' families and earned the highest rating of four stars on the Charity Navigator.
Debra's mission is clear. That is why she rides. That is who she is now. The warrior's mom will begin her journey in Lompoc, California on August 15th, and intends to finish back home after traveling through Brea; San Diego; Yuma, AZ; Tucson; Las Cruces, NM; Roswell; Amarillo, TX; Branson, MO; Springfield, IL; St. Charles; Green Bay, WI; Milwaukee, Colorado Springs, CO; Junction City, KS; Las Vegas, NV; Hesperia, CA, Edwards AFB, and back home.
During this month long trip she will attempt to bring the word to other veterans and families in remote locations that this Gold star mom and other Americans care about them and is willing to do what it takes to draw attention to their unique needs. She has arranged several speaking engagements along the route with barbeques and other fundraisers.

Anyone interested in helping Debra fulfill her mission is requested to
visit: www.specialops.org, or her fundraising page at www.firstgiving.com/DebbieArgel.

You can view the complete schedule of cities and dates online.
Your assistance in spreading her message of real hope for our finest defenders is greatly appreciated.
And if you happen to be out driving and a determined lady wearing a flag shirt rolls past you on her motorcycle, give her a wave and let her know you are thankful that she raised a son willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for us all.
