HOLLYWOOD DIRT:

Mariah Carey’s husband defends her against Nicki Minaj

Nick Cannon spoke out about the verbal altercation his wife and the 'Pound the Alarm' rapper engaged in during an 'American Idol'

When you mess with Mariah Carey, be prepared to hear from her husband. On Wednesday, Nick Cannon spoke out about the verbal altercationhis wife and the "Pound the Alarm" rapper engaged in during an "American Idol" audition taping Tuesday in North Carolina.

"My wife is the strongest and classiest woman that I've ever met, if you watch the video, she just maintains her composure," the "America's Got Talent" host said during an appearance on "Access Hollywood Live." "I don't think she's moved by the theatrics and pageantry of it all. She signed up to do a job to help young people ... this is like a sidebar. I hope that's not what this show becomes, about the catfights … [she] signed up to be a mentor on a show that is about people accomplishing their dreams."

When "AHL" co-host Kit Hoover asked Cannon if perhaps Minaj is jealous of Carey's many career accomplishments, he shot back with a laugh, "You read the script!"

Loving Rebel Wilson!
Is there anyone funnier out there right now than Rebel Wilson?

The actress has been busy promoting her new movie "Pitch Perfect" this week -- and peppering her interviews with some show-stopping numbers.

But her latest appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" is definitely our favorite so far.

"I did once have a dream that I rapped with you, like a double act ... and the audience just went crazy," Rebel said on today's episode of the show.

And with that, they made her dream her reality, doing a hilarious (and spot-on!) cover of Salt-n-Pepa's famous song "Shoop."

The awesome performance comes after Rebel performed Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory" on "The Tonight Show" earlier this week ... a performance that left Bryan Cranston ducking for cover!

We've seen "Pitch Perfect" and realllly liked it. It's like "Bring It On," but with a lot more singing.

Anderson Cooper just BLASTED Star Jones ... claiming the former "View" host was talking out of her lying, irrelevant ass when she claimed Anderson's gay announcement was a ratings ploy.

Cooper was shooting a segment of "Anderson Live" with Bravo bigshot Andy Cohen ... when Cohen asked A.C. if he felt any different after coming out publicly back in July.

That's when Anderson dropped the truth bomb:

"I will say and I actually haven't mentioned this, the only thing that did kind of annoy me and actually it annoyed my mom who brought it up to me, Star Jones of all people."

He continued, "I haven't thought about Star Jones in I don't know how long. I was unaware she was even on TV still ... but she apparently shows up on a morning show."

"Out of the blue Star Jones ... said this was a ratings ploy by me to boost ratings."

On the show, which airs today, Cooper says Jones couldn't have been more wrong -- 'cause he was on assignment in Africa when he decided to quietly make the announcement in an email to a journalist friend, who posted the letter online.

"If I was wanting to boost ratings, I would have waited to announce it on 'A Very Special Episode' that would have been promo'd for weeks and weeks and there would have been commercials ... 'Anderson's Huge Announcement.'"

"As memory serves, in terms of boosting ratings, I seem to recall [Star] hocking her wedding every single day to get free products when she was on 'The View' and I seem to recall her lying about her gastric bypass surgery and making everybody else lie about it as well. So for her to suddenly emerge out of the shadows and suddenly attack me for this, I couldn't believe it."

Cooper says he invited Star to his show to discuss her comments, but she turned him down.

"I would think she would want as much publicity as possible given her penchant for wanting publicity."

Snap.

The weight-conscious lawyer who fat-shamed Wisconsin TV anchor Jennifer Livingston won't back down from his complaint that the newswoman is setting a bad example by being obese.

Viewer Kenneth Krause even offered to help Livingston lose the weight — if she wants it.

"Considering Jennifer Livingston's fortuitous position in the community, I hope she will finally take advantage of a rare and golden opportunity to influence the health and psychological well-being of [C]oulee [R]egion children by transforming herself for all of her viewers to see over the next year,” viewer Kenneth Krause said in a statement.

“And, to that end, I would be absolutely pleased to offer any advice or support she would be willing to accept,” he added.

Krause sticks to his message but told The Associated Press he wasn't bullying Livingston.

Livingston’s brother, actor Ron Livingston, jumped to his sister's defense, saying she’s “been a role model of mine for many, many years.”

“My sister Jennifer brings an exceptional dedication to her job, her family and her community,” the “Office Space” actor told People.com.

Livingston, who has three young girls, said on NBC’s “Today” show Wednesday that it wasn’t Krause’s remarks about her weight that hurt.

“It was calling me a bad role model that rubbed me the wrong way,” she said.
