New Year decorations form a very creative and innovative part of the celebrations. People in all parts of the world take active interest in decorating their houses and workplaces. New Year is the time to splurge in parties, enjoy festive drinks, relish sumptuous meals, follow customs and traditions and colorful New Year decorations.

Adorn your house with different decoration items to give it an impressive look. Here, are some of the eye-catching ideas for your sweet home:

  • Think in advance which area requires maximum attention for decoration.
  • Create garland swags and hang it over the entrance gates, balconies and doors of other rooms.
  • Light the guest area and the main entrance of the house.
  • A New Year theme can be a good idea to give your house a splendid look.
  • Decorate the party area with New Year imprinted and mylar balloons, ribbons and New Year cards to give the feel of the occasion.
  • Golden and silver colors should be used maximum to jazz up the decorations.

Returning items after the holidays might not be as simple as a trip to the store.

Now comes the not-so-fun part of the holidays: returning all those unwanted gifts.

Whether the items were purchased at a brick-and-mortar store or online, shoppers should never assume that they can bring stuff back if they’re not satisfied, according to Lisa Lee Freeman, editor-in-chief of ShopSmart magazine from Consumer Reports.

Here are ShopSmart’s five “gotchas” to be aware of when planning returns.

Not all stores take back online purchases. Ann Taylor won’t accept swimwear, extended calf-boots, or “wedding and events” clothing at its stores.

Sports Authority is another retailer that won’t take any online purchases back in its stores, ShopSmart says.

And some items at OldNavy.com, Gap.com and BananaRepublic.com — all owned by the same parent company — are “return by mail only,” so read online return policies.

Some gift cards aren’t returnable. Apple, Kenneth Cole and Nordstrom are among the retailers that won't take back gift cards.

No receipt could mean no return. Williams-Sonoma won’t take a gift back without a receipt unless it’s defective.

Bloomingdale’s only gives credit for the lowest selling price in the past three months for gift returns without a receipt.

Outlet items mean you’re out of luck. The Land of Nod and Crate & Barrel, for example, won’t accept items bought at their outlets.

l Beware of restocking fees. Amazon charges 20% of the purchase price for unopened media items and nonmedia items 30 days or more after delivery.

Sears, meanwhile, charges a 15% restocking fee for electronics that are returned without their packaging or accessories.

HOLLYWOOD DIRT:

LINDSAY TURNS TO CHARLIE SHEEN......

1221_linsday_lohan_doc_launch

Lindsay Lohan
has successfully paid off one of her enormous tax bills ... using Charlie Sheen's $100,000 check -- and TMZ has obtained official proof.

According to the official IRS document, Lindsay has paid her outstanding 2009 tax bill for $93,701 in full.

Sources close to Lindsay tell us, she used Charlie's generous check to cover the tab -- and has already applied the remaining $6,300 to her 2010 tax bill for $140,203 (only $133,000 to go!!!).

According to sources, Lindsay's still on the hook for her 2011 taxes too -- but she's actively trying to raise the money to get herself out of the red as soon as possible.

As we reported, Charlie gave Lindsay the six-figure donation after Lindsay told him about her dire financial situation ... and also because he probably would have just spent the money on hookers anyway.

JENN AND JUSTIN IN CABO....

Who knew?  Justin Theroux is tatted neck to toe.

The pics were snapped in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico over the weekend.  Jennifer Aniston and Justin were catching some rays when he stood up and revealed a back tat.

Jennifer makes a yearly pilgrimage to Cabo around XMAS time and usually George Clooney follows suit -- this time with lucky Stacy Keibler.  And Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford always make the trek as well.

FYI --There are reports circulating that Jennifer is pregnant.  If she's really pregnant. Uhhh...yeah.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT CHRIS BROWN?

1226_chris_brown_rihanna_lakers_games_together_launchFor the first time in YEARS, Chris Brown and Rihanna arrived at a public event TOGETHER -- sitting side-by-side at the Lakers vs. Knicks game at Staples Center.

The two arrived to the arena in the same car earlier today, but got out of the vehicle separately. They eventually met up inside and sat down together in their courtside seats.

Chris and Rihanna haven't officially announced they're back on -- but it sure seems like it.

Of course, Rihanna dumped Chris back in 2009 after he beat her. Brown eventually pled guilty to assault and is still on probation stemming from that incident.
